Field Notes: Expanding FOP Awareness in Colleges and Clinics

Advocating for a rare disease like FOP requires consistency, compassion, and creativity. In recent weeks, field teams have conducted a series of impactful outreach activities across southern India. From nursing colleges to hospital corridors, the message has been clear: awareness saves lives.

One major milestone was the awareness session held at Pravagam AHS Nursing Training Centre. Students not only learned the fundamentals of FOP, but also how to identify symptoms and refer patients correctly. The session received strong feedback and requests for follow-up training.

Efforts also extended to PSG College of Nursing in Coimbatore, where leaders are helping coordinate a large joint program involving ten nearby nursing schools. This unified initiative will bring hundreds of future healthcare workers into the fold.

On the clinical side, families continued receiving essential care guidance. Children like Arzaan and Geetika received appointment scheduling support. Field teams visited homes in rural areas, including a trip to Avinashi to meet young Kanish, who now faces mobility limitations due to his condition.

Every meeting, call, and classroom session reinforces one truth: awareness must reach every layer of the system. From principals to pediatricians, the future of FOP care depends on proactive engagement at every level.
