This week showcased the power of preventive care through the story of 10-year-old Mayeshree from Manipur.
After receiving pamidronate infusion three months ago, her family attended a review consultation as planned. Even though she had no pain or swelling, Dr Vrisha advised a second treatment cycle to prevent future flare-ups before they begin.
Blood calcium test was done soon after admission and was within normal limits, allowing the therapy to proceed safely.
She was admitted for two days of pamidronate infusion and discharged on 22 November.
Her father expressed confidence and gratitude knowing that the treatment prevents flare-ups — instead of waiting for one to happen.
Her story proves that prevention is as important as treatment in FOP care.
